Smurfit-Stone reports higher Q2 2010 sales, slight operating loss
The Chicago paperboard-packaging giant today says its Q2 2010 net sales were $1.56 billion, compared with $1.41 billion in the same period last year. This result was primarily due to higher average selling prices and corrugated container shipments. It reported an operating loss of $6 million for the three months ended June 30. The most significant adjustment in Q2 2010 was exclusion of $1.42 billion of income, including tax benefits, related to Smurfit-Stone’s emergence from bankruptcy reorganization proceedings in the US and Canada. Bilcare AG to acquire Ineos Films for €100 million
The German pharmaceutical-packaging provider agrees to buy the converter of rigid-PVC and PVC-PE films, which specializes in pharma, cards and packaging markets. The deal comprises the business, assets and personnel related to INEOS’ Films operations located in North America, Europe, and Asia. INEOS employs about 1,300 people and had revenues of around €240 million. More info  

Avery Dennison names Hughes as new vp/gm for Fasson Roll North America
The Mentor, OH, p-s label-construction converter appoints Darrell Hughes as its new vp/gm for Fasson Roll North America. He brings more than 20 years of business management and product development experience. Most recently, Hughes was the president/gm of SABIC Innovative Plastics, Specialty Film and Sheet Business (Mount Vernon, IN).  More info
