Building-integrated photovoltaics market to top $8.2 billion by 2015
Builiding Integrated Photovoltaic Solar RoofVA-based research firm NanoMarkets predicts that the global market for photovoltaic systems integrated into a building’s architecture (BIPV) will reach $8.2 billion five years hence, driven by the cost advantages that these systems can provide. New products covered in the NanoMarkets report include thin-film silicon, CIGS solar cells, organic PV and dye-sensitized cells—all materials made using converting processes. More info

First 112-in. MWU Vanguard singlefacer installed at Sheets Unlimited
Corrugated-packaging converter Sheets Unlimited (Renton, WA) adds the first 112-in.-wide Vanguard Singlefacer with preheaters, splicers and roll stands from MarquipWardUnited. Capable of running product from micro-flute to heavy board, the Vanguard pressure-roll singlefacer is reportedly less expensive to operate than a belted singlefacer. According to Krist Leland, director of manufacturing for Sheets Unlimited, “The machine performed perfectly from the moment we hit the start button. Within five mins, we reached 600 fpm and within the first hour, more than 1,000 fpm.” More info
