North American packaging-paper market up less than 1% a year
Business Development Advisory’s new 96-page report forecasts trends in release papers, kraft wrapping papers, and multi-ply packaging papers over the next five years. In 2009, production amounted to more than 3.9 million tons, valued at over $4 billion. While the total North American market for packaging papers will increase less than 1% annually, the report predicts individual segments will range from -2.4% to +7.0% a year through 2014. More info
Diaper-converting acquisition strengthens SCA presence in Latin America
The Swedish paper/paperboard converter has purchased the Copamex baby-diaper manufacturing business in Mexico and Central America for US$50 million in cash. Copamex produces diaper brands Dry Kids for the Mexican market and Tessy Babies for consumers in Central America. Sales in the acquired business were about US$60 million in 2009. The acquisition will add to SCA’s current portfolio of hygiene products in Latin America, which now includes feminine care, incontinence care, consumer tissue, away-from-home tissue products and baby diapers. Accraply acquires machinery-maker Graham Engineering (Essex)
The MN-based Barry-Wehmiller subsidiary purchases Graham Engineering (Essex) and Graham Spares and Service of Brightlingsea, England. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. These businesses specialize in the design and manufacture of high-performance labeling and shrink-sleeve application products and aftermarket support. Accraply also sells and services the Stanford brand of converting, slitting and finishing equipment for shrink sleeves and flexible packaging. More info
French packaging supplier Ileos names new CEO
Nanterre, France-based Ileos Group appoints Philippe Gelblat as chief executive officer, managing the operations of Socoplan, Axilone, Packetis and Alliora. Ileos supplies packaging materials to the fragrance, cosmetic and pharmaceutical markets.
