FTA Excellence in Flexography names nine Best in Shows
More than 150 Excellence in Flexography Awards were presented at the Flexographic Technical Assn.‘s annual banquet Sunday night in Las Vegas. Nine entries took top honors in their categories. They include: Clear Lam Packaging (Process, Film; Wide Web), Label Technology (Process, Film; Mid Web), All Stick Label (Screen, Coated; Narrow Web), International Paper (Process, Wide Web; Paperboard), Paper and Design GmbH (Screen; Napkin), Wellpappe Auerswalde GmbH (Process; Combined Corrugated), Smurfit-Stone Container (Process; Preprinted Linerboard), Encore Envelopes, Ltd. (Process, Coated; Envelope), and Multilabel Argentina S.A. (Labels; Graphic Design).

AIMCAL tech-conference abstracts due May 14
Next Friday is the deadline to submit abstracts for the AIMCAL Fall Technical Conference and 24th Intl. Conference on Vacuum Web Coating. The event, set for Oct. 17-20 in Myrtle Beach, SC, is a major industry forum for the global technical community involved in web-coating processes. More info

Toray Plastics receives Frito-Lay 2009 Supplier of the Year Award
Frito-Lay North America bestowed 2009 Supplier of the Year honors on Toray Plastics (America), Inc., with its Dave Rader Innovation of the Year. Says Mike Brandmeier, senior vp, Toray Plastics (America), “Together, we successfully developed an environment-friendly, compostable, barrier-sealant PLA film that delivers the performance of conventional films.”

PPC welcomes new board members
The Paperboard Packaging Council (PPC) announces the new roster for the PPC Board of Directors. Now composed of 29 experts, leaders and innovators in the paperboard-packaging industry, the board includes Chair Steven D.
